What does it mean for Chinese forest products companies to go green?

China has proven comparatively resilient against the global economic downturn. As the Chinese forest products industry gets bigger and stronger with a “go global” strategy, many hurdles still lie ahead. In order to maintain industry’s fast growth rates in the face of weak export demand, rising production costs, and “green trade barriers” associated with legal timber trade policies in many countries, the industry is looking to stoke domestic consumption and embrace environmentally sustainable business strategies.

In the coming issue of newsletter Responsible Markets Communication, experts from leading environmental groups will be invited to discuss prospects for increased integration of environmental considerations into business development in China, and to explore key questions such as "does it pay to be green?", for example, whether pursuing forest certification will improve business bottom lines for the Chinese forest products companies?

If you would like to join this interview and share your insights, please feel free to contact us (jcao.consultant"at"ra.org) or just post your discussion in this forum, we will distribute this newsletter to over 10,000 industry professionals worldwide. Thanks!
